  • [+] The Aether Circle

    • In the Old World, the most magically powerful men and women gathered together to form the Conclave of Magi. Claiming to have been chosen by the Gods, as evidenced by the power they had, they considered themselves to be the world’s saviors. They summoned forth powerful demons to construct a base of operations, and celestial angels to craft the land into the lush beauty they planned to give all the realms. The building -- a large tower fortress surrounded by a breathtaking garden -- is named The Aether Circle, and it is here that the Conclave of Magi conducted their research into the Great Spell which would bring about the World Change. Within the fortress tower could be found the magical artifacts they had collected and the hundreds of arcane books they had written. There is even a fabled Hall of Portals which leads to areas all over the land. This was truly a place for the saviors of the world.

In order to join the Conclave, an applicant had to be strong of body, mind, and soul. To test them, a three-story underground labyrinth was constructed below the tower fortress. The demons who were summoned to construct the tower and labyrinth were placed within. Traps both physical and magical in nature were set inside, as well as diabolical puzzles to trick even the quick of mind. If an applicant could get past the demons, avoid the traps, and solve the puzzles, then they would find themselves at the end. There, in the final room of the labyrinth, would be an artifact of great power that would be their reward for passing the tests, and a portal leading out.

When the World Change took place, the Aether Circle was greatly affected. While the demons were stowed away in the labyrinth, the angels that tended the gardens were not. These celestial creatures went insane with the appearance of the Dark Citadel; they fell from grace, and slaughtered all those in the accessible areas of the tower fortress. Though most of the Conclave were sequestered away, performing the Great Spell, some were caught out and killed. Those felled by the Fallen Angels rose back up as ghosts of their former selves. These unnatural spirits wander about the tower as if nothing had happened.

Over the years, many robbers and adventurers have attempted to gain the powerful artifacts held within. While most were killed by the Fallen Angels, enough gained entrance over time to strip the tower of everything of value. The battles between these and the dark-possessed celestials has caused countless fires inside, burning most of the mystic tomes. The Hall of Portals, while remaining largely intact, is still connected to Old World locations. Some of these places no longer exist in this dimension and thus unexpected effects could take place by going through those portals. The only place that certainly has not been plundered is the labyrinth. A mighty artifact, waiting for the next applicant to the Conclave, rests there. Of course, any who passed through the exit portal would be teleported to the top of the tower fortress, and would have many angry Fallen Angels to deal with.

  • [+] The Fallen Chapel

    • Long ago, when Ledras was known by a different name and demons stalked the landscape, there was a place which stood out as a beacon of light. This large chapel had a dual purpose. It housed refugees from a home besieged by evil and it served as a base for knights of purity. Yet when the Serpent Riders arrived, the doors to this holy structure closed to the outside world. It is said that the priests feared that the overwhelming evil of the Riders would desecrate their chapel. Thus it was locked, never to open for another individual. The priests were not worried however, for they had enough food stockpiled to last them for generations and their sturdy doors could turn aside both claw and sword. No one knows what became of those with-in, but all who venture near know that all is not right. The heavenly glow of divinity has been replaced by a black aura of depression. They even say that if you listen close enough you can hear a faint chanting, never ending and spine chilling. Should anyone find a way to open the doors, only then can the fate of the divine priests be uncovered.
