Thysis

Order of the Triad City

I

n the world of Light, practitioners of necromancy are feared, mistrusted, and even hated. While not directly opposing the Light God, a necromancer's actions are considered by Light Followers to be a blasphemy. Outside of the Arcanum -- and to some degree within -- necromancers find few places of solace. In the deserted Wastelands, however, they had an entire city in which to ply their dark craft: Thysis was their home, their safe haven.

The high walls of black obsidian contain the ruins of two locations sacred to all necromancers. The first is the Tower of Kull'thae, named after the most powerful of the founders of the Dark Art. Within the tower is an immovable tablet that makes mention of a powerful Old World demon that bestowed its faithful with the gift of Necromancy. However, the tablet makes no mention of this demon's name. The second location comprises the catacombs where the necromancers raised their first undead minions. Rumor has it that somewhere in the city -- possibly in the catacombs -- is a portal to the Cathedral of Bone. The Cathedral of Bone is the final resting place for Kull'thae and it is unlikely that She would be pleased with any disturbances.

The buildings of Thysis are similar in structure to mausoleums and crypts. All of the architecture has a gothic look, and to visitors it even gives off an eerie, unsettling feel. Known also for its healing potions of curious origins, Thysis once thrived from its Alchemy market. People around the world depended on the mystical liquids that the necromancers brewed. This led to a strong economy for the city before the Order arrived.

The citizens of the city used to have an uneasy alliance with the Light Followers. When the Order of the Triad invaded and Thysis received no support from The Council, the invading forces met with little resistance. Though they are not converted worshippers of the Serpent Riders, the citizens peacefully allow the Order to use Thysis as a base of operations. When the undead rose from the sands and began to attack the city, the resident necromancers quickly fled. They feared that this sudden attack would be blamed on them. The fleeing necromancers are said to have found refuge in the town of Marram. Thysis now besieged on all sides by a never ending, never tiring foe, both the Order occupants and the original citizens are now trapped. No one is sure why, but those who have lived in Thysis for a while have a strange feeling that the undead want something from the Tower of Kull'thae.
