The Seven Portals

Light Follower City

W

hen darkness threatened to consume the world of Light, the people looked to one place for their salvation: The Seven Portals. While not as holy as the city Lumis, The Seven Portals is home to the three Guilds that serve to protect the world from the Serpent Riders. When evil first appeared after the World Change, the leaders of the Arcanum, the Church, and the Legion combined their powers to summon forth three powerful magical beings. These mighty creatures were given the task of protecting The Seven Portals so that the followers of Light would always have a safe haven. The magical beings were called the Guardians. Each Guardian is kept in this realm through a bond with one of the three leaders and even took on a physical aspect related to them. Tied to Zedek, leader of the Legion, is the Guardian of Steel. Connected to Traductus, Grand Patriarch of the Church, is the Guardian of Fire. Bound to Menelkir, Arch-Mage of the Arcanum, is the Guardian of Ice. Through this bond, the three leaders have gained great strength against the Serpent Riders. With such power keeping the forces of darkness at bay, and being centrally located, The Seven Portals became the main Hub of all Light Follower activity. There are main guild halls for not only the Arcanum, Church, and Legion were built here, but also for the Assassins Guild.

Aside from magical protection, the city itself is surrounded by two grand walls. The city is composed of eight main sections. Seven of the eight sections each contain a mystic portal, and six of those lead to the lairs of the Guardians. The seventh portal is held deep within the Council Building, where the three faction leaders govern the people of the Light. The destination of this magical gateway is a secret held solely by the Council.

In the center of this massive city are the homes of many Light Followers. Additionally, it contains a marketplace -- while not as large as Felhaven’s, it is still enough to supply any number of citizens. In case the soldiers in the Legion District are defeated, there is the Militia District where the city’s own army is trained and housed. The Gardens District is a place where just enough food is produced so that in case trade comes to a halt, the city can still survive. The Government District contains the Council Building and the upperclass homes. The Council Building itself is separated from the other buildings by a vast opening in the ground. In the center of it is a magical pathway bridging one side to the other. The Arcanum District is abuzz with the sparks of magical energy. The constant research and practice of the Mages causes the very air to feel charged with power here. The Church District never experiences night, for the glow emanating from their headquarters provides a light as bright as day. The Legion District contains a small but impressive fortress, where all matters of the Legion are performed. The one place that few feel safe, however, is the Shadow District. It is here that the Assassins Guild takes on their contracts. No torch or source of light is allowed in this district, the only exception being those who shine with holy light.
