Who do I contact if I have a question, comment, or suggestion?
You can go to our forums for any questions or to give your opinion. You can also contact the team leader at SerpentofShadow@gmail.com. If you contact him please be sure to have "Project Serpent" in the subject line of your e-mail.
It will be hard to tell until it is actually made... however, my guess is a decent size bigger. Cities will most certainly be bigger than Oblivion's, I can tell you that for sure.
What can you tell us about the races?
The races are: Human (Imperial), Mageborn (Breton), Warriorborn (Nord), Caurthorian (Argonian), Seraph (High Elf), and Sidhe (Wood Elf). The heights, weights, and some of the eyes are changed around too. Each race has their own special abilities and features.
Every class can technically use every normal weapon. There will be a few class specific weapons, but those will be powerful and very hard to get (long series of quests). Weapons will feel a little more like Hexen's than Oblivion's, especially because of our enchantment/recharge system that we are working on. The best choice for a weapon would obviously be the one that goes with your Major skill. If you are a Fighter or a Paladin however, use whatever you like! Spells will be the strength of the casters. With staff and spellbook they will bring magical death to their foes.
Do we get our two types of mana or just one as in Oblivion?
The player will still only have one type of magicka. However, as part of our weapon recharge system, the soulgems are being replaced with special "Mana" items. Blue and Green Mana will be dropped from most foes, Red from stronger ones, Soul Spheres from people, and the mighty Purple Mana (used by the Heresiarches in Hexen) will be dropped from bosses.
I would LOVE to give them a more classic look. We are trying our best with the team's talent. Obviously we could get a little closer with someone more skilled at retexturing than myself. If we did have someone that could make 3d models however, I do know of a few things we could add into the game. For one, we'd make the Mana actually shaped like the Mana in the Hexen games. There are also some monsters that, as great as they are, cannot be implimented without new models and animations. The Death Wyvern from Hexen and the Ophidian from Heretic are two examples.
Isn't the Crusader and the Cleric kind of the same class anyway?
No! Even in Hexen and Hexen II they are very different. They both have the similarity of being holy classes, but not many other similarities. The Cleric is more of a spellcaster, where the Crusader is more of a warrior. Both are good at healing, but their general approach to combat is different.
Will we ever hear about the characters from the past games? Or possibly even meet one or two?
The player will hear about the characters from the past games. Meeting them though, probably not.
Yes, this will be a seperate ESM and will require all plugins to be turned off. Custom textures and such can stay in most cases however (like the better LOD and such would still work).
How will character creation work?
The player starts off life in their house. You see your character standing in there and are told to choose your race. After race you are told to choose your class and then finally your birthsign. Depending on which class you have chosen you will recieve a special ability (it levels with you too).
Will we be able to join the evil side?
Yes, you can join the Order of the Triad. You start out with the Light Followers and if you don't join the Order, then you are asked to go "under cover". So the player will see things from both perspectives if they don't pick one right away.
Do we play set characters like in the Hexen games?
Well, to a degree we have that. There are eight classes, custom class is turned off. You choose race, birthsign, face, gender, etc.
Do you use your own birthsigns, or Bethesda's?
What do the cities look like? Will there be new buildings?
The cities are planned to be BIG, but not Daggerfall giant sized mind you. They will also be walled. And new buildings are planned, as well as a lot of retextured ones.
Yes, though not too much as to take away from the dark feel.
Will the gameplay be based more around role-playing or action?
We're leaning more towards action, but won't be skimping out on the story.
Some of the famous weapons from Heretic will be in it. The Dragonclaw and Ethereal Crossbow are not planned to be included at this moment. However, we have some very talented modellers on this team, so don't count those two weapons out just yet. The Phoenix Rod and Hellstaff will certainly be in it.
There are unique weapons, armors, and items that can be found. An example is that you will have a quest to gather and assemble Bloodscourge (mage's last weapon in Hexen).
Will the player come across places like you had in Hexen and Heretic?
There will be similar places, but at this time we do not plan to exactly duplicate any levels. Certain spots may be based off a level, but the layout may have anywhere from small variation to completely different.
Can we battle the Serpent Riders?
Well, to a degree yes and to a degree no... I can't go into this without spoiling a major part of our storyline.
Do you already have the spells in mind which the player will be able to use?
Yes, we do already have spells in mind that the player can use. Most will be based on the class you choose. Some will be from the H/H games where others will be our own creation. The Magic Missiles for the Necromancer, Frost Shards for the Mage, and Firestorm for the Cleric are some examples of H/H spells that will make an appearence (though that is just a small taste). Various items will grant "temporary spells". That means you gave a spell to use the item (like the Disc of Repulsion), but each cast of the spell uses 1 of the item. When you run out, the spell is removed. Other items you have to physically "equip" to use them, which destroys them in the process. Summoning a Maulotaur will be one of the special items in PS: RoV, just like in Hexen.
Will more monsters be added than in the monster section at the site?
As monsters are thought up and created they will be added. Our talented modellers are currently working on getting custom animations working. So aside from Oblivion retextures you just may see the Ettin, Chaos Serpent, and more...
Will you be making up monsters yourself too? Or only picking them from both Hexen and Heretic?
Yes, we will be creating monsters unique to PS: RoV as well as picking them from Heretic, Hexen, Hexen II, and Heretic II.
Oh yes, the Maulotaur will be a force to be reckoned with. They will in most circumstances be considered a "miniboss". So if you see one when you are wandering around each region, I suggest exercising caution.
What about the disciples of D'Sparil? Will they also take a place in the mod?
The Disciples of D'Sparil will most likely not appear as a custom monster. It will most likely be used as more of a title then anything else. Instead we will be leaning in favor toward the Dark Bishops from Hexen.
Will this mod require Shivering Isles?
It all depends on what Project Serpent can gain from it. If the gain outweighs the fact that it will limit who can play Project Serpent, then we will use the expansion content and thus it would be required. If it does not, then we will not be requiring it. It all depends on what truly IS in the expansion and how it may or may not be useful to us.
